Video Editing: Old Greenock & Ken Burns Effect

For our first mini project, the pupils at Whinhill primary chose photos of Old Greenock from the NRS archive. They then worked on writing and translating a short script into Gaelic and recorded their own narrations. This is something that we’ll be doing for the final film project. The video here is one group’s first experience with script translating, recording and editing. The group learned how to record using professional microphones and also how to edit their narrations to the photographs from the NRS archive.

We learned loads of video editing techniques over these sessions, from cutting to adding titles, but most importantly this was the first introduction to the Ken Burns effect of adding movement to still images—a technique used in lots of historical documentaries.

We can’t wait to share more!
